Event at a Glimpse

The workshop titled "Modern Confucianism and Public Consciousness: The Construction and Practice in Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia" took place on 3-4 May 2013 in the HSS Meeting Room, NTU (HSS-05-57). This workshop was jointly organized by Nanyang Technological University (Division of Chinese, CLASS and CCLC), and Yonsei University (Institute of Korean Studies).
 
Professor Alan Chan Kam Leung (Dean of College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, NTU), Professor Baik Young Seo (Director of Institute of Korean Studies, Yonsei University), and Professor Quah Sy Ren (Head of Division of Chinese, NTU) delivered their opening speeches before the workshop commenced on 3 May 2013. This was followed by two keynote presentations by Professor Baik Young Seo (topic: “中国特色”的普遍主义的未来:重思儒教与公共性) and Professor Lee Guan Kin (Distinguished Senior Research Fellow of CCLC; topic: 儒学在东南亚的承传:新马印之比较研究). 

The two-day workshop featured a total of eleven presenters, namely Professor Hur Soo (Hallym University, Korea); Professor Park Young Do, Professor Cho Keong Ran, and Professor Na Jong Seok (Yonsei University, Korea); Professor Lo Yuet Keung and Professor Lee Cheuk Yin (National University of Singapore); Professor Neo Peng Fu (National Institute of Education, Singapore); Professor Leo Suryadinata (Director of Chinese Heritage Centre, NTU); Professor Park So Jeong and Professor Ngoi Guat Peng (Division of Chinese, NTU); and Professor Li Chenyang (Division of Philosophy, NTU). The workshop came to a end after Professor Quah Sy Ren gave his closing remark.      

A total of 40 participants, comprising mainly of faculty, graduate and undergraduate students attended this workshop.
